Ibrahima Konate has confirmed that he will miss Liverpool’s key Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

The France international has been a crucial figure alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence this season.

Konate delivered another impressive performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

But the 25-year-old injured his knee in the final minute of the game following a challenge from Madrid’s Brazilian forward Endrick.

Konate required assistance from Liverpool’s medical staff as he limped off the pitch and the centre-back has now announced that he will be unavailable for City’s visit to Anfield this weekend.

‘So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night,’ Konate wrote on Instagram on Friday afternoon.

‘Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again. Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield.

‘Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way.’
