Rangers’ new manager will be given the financial backing needed to close the gap on Celtic this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Light Blues are coming towards the end of a forgettable season, with Barry Ferguson’s side knocked out of the Europa League quarter-finals by Athletic Bilbao in midweek and set for a trophyless campaign.

With 49ers Enterprises arriving as majority owners in June, Football Insider revealed last month that they’ll wait to make an announcement on Rangers’ new manager until after the final day of the season.

Sources have also told Football Insider that the 49ers are set to provide money for Rangers’ new manager to spend big in the transfer market, with a view to bridging the gap on Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Celtic have all-but wrapped up the Premiership title already and are set for another season of Champions League football, leaving them well placed to widen the financial gap between themselves and Rangers.

Rangers ready for significant summer spending spree

Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Ferguson is highly unlikely to be hired permanently as Rangers’ new manager, and getting their first appointment right will be 49ers Enterprises’ top priority.

However, with sources telling Football Insider last month that Rangers’ next manager is set to be given a £25million summer transfer budget, the 49ers are wasting no time in their efforts to chase down Celtic.

Rangers’ soon-to-be sister club Leeds United are firmly on course for the Premier League under 49ers ownership, and sources have told Football Insider they’ll look to replicate such successes at Ibrox.

49ers set Rangers target after Celtic successes

Rangers have beaten Celtic twice in three Old Firm league meetings yet still sit an unassailable 15 points behind them this season, and it’s no surprise the 49ers are desperate to avoid falling further behind.

Just as they have at Leeds, the 49ers will oversee significant squad churn, but Football Insider revealed that Rangers’ new owners see Hamza Igamane and Nico Raskin as they keystones of a new-look team.

Rangers could even attempt to steal a march on Celtic by persuading Greg Taylor to make a surprise move across the Glasgow divide, but the 49ers will know their vision must be a long-term one at Ibrox.
