Martin Dubravka started for Newcastle United as they pulled off a surprise 2-0 victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
The Newcastle goalkeeper stepped up to the task as well, making two saves, four punches and two high claims during the contest, according to Sofascore. Previously, Paul Robinson lauded Dubravka, describing him as an “inspirational signing.”
Heading into the second leg, Eddie Howe has every reason to be quietly confident as the daunting atmosphere at St. James’ Park hands the hosts an advantage.
While Martin Dubravka would have been in a celebratory mood following Newcastle’s win against Arsenal, an update has emerged about his future that indicates that he could bid farewell to the Toon Army sooner rather than later.
Fabrizio Romano says Martin Dubravka has agreed Al Shabab move
Initially signing for the Magpies on a loan deal, the Slovakian shotstopper was eventually signed for £4 million (Sky Sports) permanently in 2018.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Dubravka has an “agreement in principle with Al Shabab over contract terms.”
The 35-year-old is believed to be “waiting” for Newcastle’s green light before heading to the Saudi Pro League club.
Dubravka was expected to leave Newcastle in the summer but the move did not get over the line.
Dubravka’s agent hinted he could leave this summer as well due to a lack of playing time.
Eddie Howe has told Newcastle not to sell Martin Dubravka this month
TBR Football understands that Eddie Howe has told Newcastle not to let the veteran leave this month.
With Nick Pope’s worrying injury record, Howe has his concerns and as a result, he would like Dubravka to stay at Newcastle.
However, the Al Shabab target is looking to depart the Premier League this January.
TBR Football can reveal that it looks like Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell will sanction his sale, however.
