Tottenham were beaten at Brighton today and while Dominic Solanke enjoyed a fine first half, the second 45 minutes couldn’t have been more different.

Spurs capitulated as they conceded three goals that were all preventable to leave Ange Postecoglou annoyed going into the break.

Spurs fans, too, will be fuming with the manner of the defeat and the outspoken Jamie O’Hara has already given his reaction to proceedings.

However, things could have been so much better as well had Tottenham managed to keep up their first-half showing.

That first half saw Dominic Solanke get a direct assist for Brennan Johnson, while he was then involved as Spurs scored a brilliant second.

But with Tottenham struggling after half-time, Solanke more or less went missing and live on Sky, a damning stat was shared.

Dominic Solanke stat highlights Tottenham’s struggles at Brighton

Speaking in the Sky Sports studio after the game, presenter Dave Jones shared a stat on Solanke that showed just how ineffective he was in the second 45 minutes.

“Solanke made nine passes in the second half and four of them were from kick-offs,” Jones quipped when talking to Les Ferdinand about the forward.

Solanke not to blame completely

While a basic stat like this will always look bad on the player in question, the truth is is that it wasn’t all down to Solanke being poor.

Yes, he went missing a bit but Brighton changed things and never allowed him to get any of the ball from the midfielders.

Furthermore, Tottenham’s own players simply never got involved in the game enough to bring Solanke into the picture and as all the top strikers know, it can be a lonely job when the rest of the team is struggling.

The positives for Solanke and Spurs are how good he looked in the opening 45.

But they’ll need more of that to have any sort of success, and less of these meltdowns like today.
