Insider predicts winner in Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool race for Viktor Gyokeres

Man United are competing with Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the Red Devils are currently the favourites to complete his signing.

Gyokeres, 26, has a close relationship with Ruben Amorim after their time together at Sporting CP which is currently swinging the deal in their favour.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 15 March that Man United remain keen on Gyokeres and Amorim is the driving force behind the deal.

Despite United’s struggles which have them in 13th place in the Premier League and likely missing out on European football, the forward is still open to the move.

However, both Liverpool and Arsenal remain in with a chance as they would offer the Sweden international a better chance at winning major silverware, as well as Champions League football.

Man United lead Arsenal and Liverpool in Gyokeres race

Brown told Football Insider that Gyokeres is seen as “perfect” for Man United given his history with Amorim and in the manager’s system.

The former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa, insisted that relationship with Amorim will prove key in convincing him to choose United.

“United are the front runners at the moment,” he told Football Insider.

“He knows what Ruben Amorim wants him to do, he knows the system, and that means it shouldn’t take him long to adapt to the move.

“They’ve got a good relationship, Gyokeres and Amorim, which always helps.

“He took a chance on him at Sporting and helped him get to where he is now.

“Can United get involved in a bidding war with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool? Probably not.

“If it comes down to that, those teams have the financial muscle to get a deal done.

“That’s going to be a concern for them this summer because they’re competing with teams who have money to spend – United look like they will have to sell first.

“But if you take that out of the equation, I think Gyokeres wants to join Man United.

“If those other clubs decide against making a move, or United can get it done before they enter the conversation, that’s the move I think he’ll make.”

Jeremie Frimpong decisions made amid transfer race

Both Man United and Liverpool have also been linked with a move to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

The two clubs are aiming to sign a right-back amid concerns about the futures of Diogo Dalot and Trent Alexander-Arnold respectively.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 18 March that United and Liverpool are unlikely to sign Frimpong despite holding an initial interest in his availability.

Frimpong's perceived lack of defensive stability and structure have caused both clubs to look elsewhere amid concerns about whether his talents would translate to the English game.
