Insider: West Ham plot move to sign Chelsea star this month

West Ham are plotting a move to sign Chelsea midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the January transfer window, according to their former scout.
Mick Brown, who worked as a senior scout at the London Stadium until leaving alongside David Moyes in June and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 26-year-old would be an ideal fit for West Ham’s midfield.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 7 January that the Hammers are working on a deal to sign a new midfielder this month.
The board are expected to be willing to spend this month in an effort to back the new manager after appointing Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui.
However, their interest in Dewsbury-Hall has been long-standing and his availability at Stamford Bridge has put the transfer team at the London Stadium on alert.
Football Insider first and exclusively revealed on 7 December that Chelsea had made Dewsbury-Hall available for a permanent move ahead of the transfer window.
The midfielder has made 15 appearances since his move to West London, but has played just 55 minutes of Premier League football and is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.
West Ham transfer team on red alert after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall news
Brown previously told Football Insider that West Ham passed up on the opportunity to sign Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester after his recommendation in 2023.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, explained that the midfielder would still be a good fit in the Hammers’ side.
“I used to say when I was there that he should be an option,” he told Football Insider.
“At the time, they didn’t listen and they missed their chance to sign him before he eventually made the move to Chelsea.
“I was surprised at the lack of games he’s been given at Chelsea, but they obviously feel they have better options in the role he plays, so he’s been made surplus to requirements.
“So my opinion on him at West Ham hasn’t changed.
“He’s the type of player that likes to get on the ball and drive up the pitch – they don’t have that type of profile in their midfield at the moment.
“Bowen does it, Kudus does it, but they’re both forwards – Dewsbury-Hall plays deeper.
“From what I hear, they are considering making a move for him, and they’d be silly not to in my opinion if he is available and ready to leave Chelsea.“
In other news, Man City could trigger Mohammed Kudus' release clause.
