Ipswich Town are close to sealing their second signing of the winter transfer window after Ben Godfrey arrived – in a development which could benefit Crystal Palace.

TBR Football understand Philogene is undergoing a medical at Ipswich after the Tractor Boys agreed a £21m fee with Aston Villa – beating Everton to the England U21 international’s signature.

Unai Emery has only handed the Aston Villa No.19 just two Premier League starts so far this season, and seeing as the Villans are closing in on Donyell Malen, the 22-year-old has now been given permission to join Ipswich Town.

Given recent developments in the transfer window, those at Crystal Palace may be celebrating this news amid interest in Ben Doak.

Ipswich Town might have now given Crystal Palace a free run at Ben Doak

Both Crystal Palace and Ipswich have seen bids rejected by Liverpool for the Scotland international so far this month.

TBR Football understand Crystal Palace and Ipswich planned to bid for Doak again as the Premier League duo chase the 19-year-old attacker.

However, with Ipswich now agreeing a deal for a different winger in Philogene, it could suggest those over at Portman Road are giving up on Doak, leaving Crystal Palace with a free run at securing his signature this month.

Of course, Kieran McKenna could still sign both, but with Jack Clarke already struggling for playing time – making just four Premier League starts since his £15m move from Sunderland in August – we doubt that will be the case.

On the topic of Clarke, TBR Football are being told that a number of clubs have asked to take the 24-year-old on loan, although an exit is viewed as unlikely as things stand.

Crystal Palace think £25m will be enough to sign Ben Doak from Liverpool

At this moment in time, we are yet to hear whether Liverpool have rejected a second bid from Crystal Palace for the Scottish wonderkid – who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough.

However, sources have informed TBR Football that Crystal Palace believe £25m will be enough to sign Doak from Liverpool – despite widespread speculation the Reds want £30m for the teenager.
