Brøndby IF’s Clement Bischoff came close to securing a transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this year.
The left-back has given a detailed interview to Bold and Friday’s edition of Ekstra Bladet have covered his comments.
It’s pointed out the 19-year-old’s tone changed and he lost his big smile when discussing the failed move to Brighton.
After the winter market closed, the Premier League club wanted to secure an agreement with Brøndby for Bischoff to arrive at The Amex in the summer.
On February 6th, we covered claims from Denmark that he’d travelled to the UK for medical tests with Brighton. Four days later, Tipsbladet reported the operation collapsed due to a last-minute disagreement between the parties.
The player has now explained it was difficult for him to accept that a dream transfer to Brighton broke down.
“It was such a strange feeling. It was as if something was taken away from me just as I was about to achieve something,” he said.
He explained the English club’s project suited him, which makes it even more disappointing to have missed out on a transfer to Brighton.
“It was tough. It was a project that I could see myself in, which is the most important thing. It’s a good club and it’s the Premier League, so of course it’s a boyhood dream. I was disappointed. I’ll be honest with you. I was over there and got the message and it was tough. Then I travelled home,” Bischoff explained.
The Denmark U21 international has refused to share any details regarding why the move didn’t go through.
When asked what it was like to when his family knocked on the hotel door and told him, the Dane said he wants to put this disappointment behind him.
“It was a bit like a movie. But as I’ve always been told, things move quickly in football. It has done that for me in a positive way for a very long time,” he added.
“The first day I thought about it an awful lot, and it was tough. I was also told that I could take a little break from training if that’s what I needed. But I’m not like that.
“I just want to get back on the training pitch and get my mind off it a bit, because it’s on the football pitch that I forget things. I’ve done that, so I’m moving on now.”
