Jack Grealish upset: Ex-Arsenal star slams 'boring' Man City
Today at 05:00 AM
Jack Grealish has had his talent “coached out of him” amid his ongoing struggles at Man City, according to Theo Walcott.
The Englishman netted his first goal of the season in City’s 8-0 victory against Salford City on 11 January, having gone more than a year without one.
However, his recent performances have drawn criticism from fans. Some suggest that his time at the club may be coming to an end due to the rise of Savinho, and Walcott often doesn’t enjoy seeing the former Aston Villa captain in Pep Guardiola’s side.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club, the former Arsenal winger said that with some modern-day games being “boring” Grealish’s natural talent has been coached out of him.
He explained: "Some games can be quite stagnated and boring to watch – get the ball, receive it, turn back, let the full-back do the one-v-one against the other full-back.”
"I'm like, 'No!' That is his strength. He's gone away from his strength; he's gone away from everything that is Jack Grealish. It's been trained out of him."
"When was the last time he picked the ball up and done the maverick side of things, and got people off their seats? I don't see people getting off seats anymore."
Man City may need to cut their losses on Jack Grealish
Football Insider Verdict
Guardiola is renowned for his strict tactical approach, demanding players adhere to detailed instructions—something Grealish has found challenging. This struggle could result in his departure from the club.
The winger has played in various positions this season, with his recent performances in midfield earning praise from fans eager to see him thrive.
However, despite this positive shift, it seems all roads point towards an exit unless something drastic changes.
Football Insider revealed that the club are open to offers for the winger, as concerns about his performances have been raised by the club's hierarchy.
Grealish failed to score a single goal in the previous calendar year for City. Meanwhile players like Savinho and Jeremy Doku have stepped up and showcased their flair.
Given his lack of impact and the emergence of other talents, a move away from the Etihad could provide a fresh start. Benefiting both him and the club in the long run.
In other news, Man City have set their sights on signing a new midfielder in the January transfer window.
