Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho couldn’t hide his excitement after Reece James shared a fitness update on social media.
The 25-year-old has been sidelined for a month after suffering a new hamstring injury during training, only weeks after returning from a similar setback during Chelsea’s pre-season tour in the USA.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of their Premier League game with Everton on Sunday (December 22), Enzo Maresca confirmed James was set to return to first-team training.
Maresca said: “Reece finally tomorrow will start with us for part of the session, so slowly, slowly, he will be back. That doesn’t mean he is going to be with us on Sunday or next Sunday. Just tomorrow.
“The plan for him tomorrow is to be with the team for part of the session and from there to try to build the right condition for him and then finally he can be back with us.”
James has made just four appearances across all competitions this season, starting three matches and totaling 241 minutes of action without scoring or providing an assist.

Sancho, 24, has been born again since leaving Man United for Chelsea in the summer, starting eight of his 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing five assists in 679 minutes of action.
James took to Instagram to share an image of himself in training, captioning it with a clock emoji, to which Sancho responded with: “He’s back!”
Maresca has transformed Chelsea since joining in the summer, sitting in second with 34 points from their 16 league games.
Chelsea travel to Goodison Park knowing that a win would take them top of the league, temporarily at least, with Liverpool set to play Tottenham in the late kick-off.
