The Sun have since reported the player in question was McClean.

The 35-year-old has been a key player for the Welsh outfit since linking up at the Racecourse in 2023 from Wigan.

He proved key in the club earning promotion to League One, and has been an almost ever-present figure as Wrexham look to earn promotions in three successive seasons.

But he could be ruled out of Thursday’s clash against title rivals Birmingham with Wrexham to host the table-toppers.

In the build-up to the eagerly-anticipated fixture, Wrexham announced that a player was tended to following an accident.

A club statement read: “Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first-team player has been involved in a car accident this morning on his way to training.

“It was a single car accident with no other vehicles involved and the relevant local authorities were quickly present at the scene.

“The player reported to the Club this morning and will undergo further medical checks.”

Thankfully for McClean, he is alleged to have suffered no serious injuries from the accident.

North Wales Police said in a statement: “Shortly before 9am this morning (Wednesday, January 22), we received a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A534 in Wrexham, near to Wrexham Golf Club.

“Officers and colleagues from the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, which had blocked the road until the vehicle was recovered shortly before 10am.

“No serious injuries were reported from the scene.”

McClean has recently been in the news over his derogatory view of Shrewsbury following abuse he received from fans following Wrexham’s 2-1 defeat in the cross-border derby.

Full-time scenes at New Meadow showed the ex-Sunderland star trying to confront the home supporters, before being stopped by security.

He subsequently took to his Instagram story where he fired a shocking insult as he responded to the viral clip.

The former Stoke man said: “In fairness if I was born and raised in Shrewsbury, I'd probably be this angry as well cause it's an absolute cesspit full of inbreds."
