James Tavernier sends 'gutted' message to Rangers fans after development

Rangers captain James Tavernier admitted on social media that he was ‘gutted’ after their late 2-1 Europa League defeat to Man United on Thursday (January 23).
The 33-year-old played the full 90 minutes and provided the assist for Cyriel Dessers’ equaliser, though his side ultimately suffered a late defeat to the Premier League giants.
Jack Butland's own goal opened the scoring for the home side, misjudging the flight of Man United’s corner and punching into the back of his own net.
Harry Maguire's missed header from Tavernier’s long ball allowed Cyriel Dessers to bag the equaliser in the 88th minute, and Rangers looked well on their way to earning a valuable point at Old Trafford.
Lisandro Martinez then sent a lofted ball into the Rangers area and Bruno Fernandes was the first to react, firing past Butland on the volley.
James Tavernier ‘proud’ of Rangers performance despite Man United defeat
The prolific right-back has once again been key for Rangers this season, starting 28 of his 32 games across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing eight assists in his 2533 minutes of action.
Tavernier took to Instagram after the defeat to address the fans, saying: “Gutted to have not taken any points tonight. However, proud of the courage and fight we put up throughout.
“Top support from the travelling fans in the corner and in Manchester, get back safe. Let's get the place rocking next Thursday at home.”
Defeat to Man United sees Rangers fall out of the automatic qualification spots and into 13th in the new Europa League league phase.
Philippe Clement’s attention will return to domestic affairs on Sunday (January 26) as they prepare for a trip to Dundee United.
