Speaking on commentary during the first half, Jamie Carragher waxed lyrical about Jonny Evans, who was a surprised inclusion in the starting line-up.
“Jonny Evans has been outstanding. A lot of eyebrows raised when the team news came out today but he’s just stopped a really dangerous attack from Villa.”
The 36-year-old was an assured presence in the absence of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, who were both named on the bench.
Evans has actually been a pretty astute signing for United since arriving on a free from Leicester during the summer of 2023.
