Chelsea ace Joao Felix has congratulated Marc Guiu on scoring his first senior hattrick in their 5-1 Europa Conference League win over Shamrock Rovers on Thursday (December 19).

The 18-year-old opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before the visitors scored a surprise equaliser just three minutes later.

Chelsea took the game by the scruff of its neck after that, with the striker bagging his second thanks to a defensive mishap between the opposition goalkeeper and one of their defenders.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made it 3-1 not long after before Guiu secured his hattrick with a lovely header from Noni Madueke’s pin-point cross in added time of the first half.

Fellow Spaniard Marc Cucurella rounded off the scoring just after the break and Chelsea progressed to the knockout rounds with six wins from six games.

Guiu has impressed in his limited opportunities since joining the West London club from Barcelona in the summer, starting six of his ten games across all competitions, scoring goals, and providing zero assists in 442 minutes of action.

Felix, 25, replaced Guiu just after Chelsea’s fifth goal with the game all but over, marking his first appearance since his one-minute cameo in their 4-3 win over Tottenham.

Chelsea’s immense squad depth means Felix is yet to establish himself at the club, starting seven of his 16 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals, and providing two assists in 787 minutes on the field.

Still, morale at the club seems high, and Felix took to Instagram to share an image of his former Barcelona teammate holding his hattrick ball.

Chelsea go into their game against Sean Dyche’s struggling Everton side on Sunday (December 22) knowing that a win would see them go top of the Premier League table, temporarily at least.

Enzo Maresca’s side are in the midst of a title race even if he doesn’t want to admit it, sitting two points behind Liverpool, although the Merseysiders have a game in hand.
