Joao Gomes posts 'thank you' message after Wolves exit

Joao Gomes has posted a thankful tribute message to Gary O'Neil after he was sacked as Wolves manager.
O'Neil had been the focus of speculation for weeks about his potential sacking, with three straight defeats before facing Ipswich Town.
Gomes joined Wolves from Brazilian club Flamengo back in January 2023 for around £15million [BBC Sport].
Despite thriving under him in recent months, the Brazilian couldn't prevent the sacking of his coach after a last-gasp winner from the Tractor Boys on Saturday (14 December).
He took to Instagram to post a heartwarming message to his former manager after his dismissal. He posted on his story saying: "Thank you for everything. It was a great pleasure working with you", followed by a heart and handshake emoji.
Wolves face relegation battle and concern over player commitment
Football Insider opinion
The Midlands club sit 19th and undoubtedly face a battle to stay in the top flight this season.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that the club is confident of securing Vitor Pereira's appointment, despite financial troubles.
The 56-year-old will need to address several ongoing issues, including injury problems that have left him with only two fit centre-backs.
Players have also shown a lack of discipline both on and off the pitch. Matheus Cunha is expected to face a ban for elbowing an Ipswich coach, and Mario Lemina had his captaincy stripped after a full-time altercation against West Ham.
Saying the dressing room was lost is an understatement, as things soured under the former Bournemouth coach. Cunha is one player who has already bid farewell, but player responses have been scarce.
The club currently sit five points adrift of safety, with games against Leicester, Manchester United, and Tottenham to come before the end of 2024.
However, whoever takes charge has a significant task ahead. If it is Pereira, it will be his first job in English football.
In other news, Wolves are among four Premier League clubs trying to sign a former Premier League defender.
