Joe Hart says striker Tottenham signed for just £9m was actually better than Jamie Vardy

Joe Hart has been ranking some of the best strikers of the Premier League era.
Joe Hart played with and against some of the best attackers in the Premier League era during his spell in the top-flight from Sergio Aguero to Robin van Persie.
The former goalkeeper, now pundit, had to create a tier-list of strikers for TNT Sports, and he made some bold claims during this ranking challenge.
Hart named Harry Kane as the best striker of the bunch, while he put Ruud van Nistelrooy and Sergio Aguero just below the England captain.
Interestingly, Kane wasn't the only Tottenham legend Hart had ranked, as he put Jermain Defoe among some all-time greats in his list.
Joe Hart ranks Jermain Defoe among Premier League greats
Hart put Jermain Defoe in the B-tier of Premier League strikers.
Hart actually ranked Defoe ahead of some true legends of the game including Teddy Sheringham, Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy.
Defoe scored plenty of goals in his career, and he's certainly one of the best finishers to ever play in the Premier League.
Michael Dawson said Defoe was incredible in training with Spurs, while Les Ferdinand reckons Defoe was better than Heung-Min Son, Tottenham's current captain.
Hart played against Defoe on 13 occasions in his career, and, interestingly, Defoe only ever scored four goals against the former Manchester City stopper.
Jermain Defoe compared to Jamie Vardy
Defoe certainly deserves his spot among the Premier League greats, but to say that he's better than Jamie Vardy is certainly up for debate.
Indeed, Vardy is an absolute legend of the game, and despite being a late bloomer, he's achieved some incredible things in the Premier League.
Jermain Defoe | Jamie Vardy
Premier League Games | 496 | 325 |
Premier League Goals | 163 | 142 |
Golden Boots | 0 | 1 |
Highest scoring season | 18 | 24 |
International caps | 57 | 26 |
International goals | 20 | 7 |
Premier League titles | 0 | 1 |
Defoe may have scored more Premier League goals than Vardy, but in terms of impact on the league, there aren't many strikers who can claim to have achieved what Vardy has.
Defoe was one of the Spurs' best signings at just £9m back in the day, but the £1m Leicester City paid for Vardy may be one of the best signings of all-time.
However, it is understandable why Hart would pick Defoe over Vardy.
Indeed, in his experience, Defoe was the greater goal threat.
Vardy played seven games against Hart in his career, and he didn't score once.
Jermain Defoe record vs Joe Hart | Jamie Vardy record vs Joe Hart
Games | 13 | 7 |
Goals | 4 | 0 |
Vardy and Defoe are two of the all-time great Premier League strikers, and it's certainly interesting to debate which player was better.
