03/24/2025 05:49 PM
Chelsea captain Reece James scored a stunning freekick but Jude Bellingham was lucky not to see red in England’s 3-0 win over Latvia.
A mix-up between Jordan Pickford and Marc Guehi in the 19th minute almost allowed for Vladislavs Gutkovskis to open the scoring for the away side, but the striker lashed his effort into the side-netting from a tight angle.
Reece James opened the scoring with a truly unstoppable freekick in the 38th minute, whipping his effort into the top corner from 30 yards out.
Jude Bellingham was very fortunate not to be sent off in the 57th minute, after a reckless challenge that was deserving of being a second yellow.
Harry Kane then made it two in the 68th minute, after Declan Rice set-up the England captain for an easy tap-in.
Eberechi Eze came off the bench to seal the deal for England in the 75th minute after a lovely, juking run, ensuring the Three Lions maintained their 100% win rate in the World Cup qualifying.
Thomas Tuchel watches England cruise to victory
Jordan Pickford – 5
Between himself and Guehi, they almost gifted Latvia the opener, little else to do all night.
Reece James – 9 – Man of the Match
An inch perfect freekick summarised a stunning performance from the Chelsea captain on his return the Three Lions starting line-up under his former boss.
Ezri Konsa – 7
Quietly composed, a classic performance from the Aston Villa man, never in the spotlight, never lets the opposition attackers have the spotlight.
Marc Guehi lucky not to give away goal for England
Marc Guehi – 5
Guehi will be likely be leaving Crystal Palace this summer, made an absolute hash of defending in the 19th minute and almost gifted Latvia a goal.
Myles Lewis-Skelly (off for Walker 78′) – 7
Lewis-Skelly was stunning against Albania and was once again a key part of England’s build-up, stepping up from fullback into the midfield.
Jude Bellingham (off for Foden 67′) – 4
Moved deeper into a number eight role to make way for Rogers, the Real Madrid star was incredibly fortunate not to be sent off, before Tuchel removed him for Foden.
Declan Rice in control for England vs Latvia
Declan Rice (off for Henderson 78′) – 8
Assisted Kane’s goal wonderfully, the Arsenal man was in total control until his substitution.
Jarrod Bowen (off for Eze 61′) – 6
Took a few knocks from the Latvian defenders, before being substituted on the hour mark, the right-wing position remains a problem area for Tuchel to address.
Morgan Rogers – 7
Dictated the flow and tempo of the game well, his performance in the centre of the park for England was much better than his recent showings at right-wing for his club.
Marcus Rashford (off for Jones 78′) – 7
Rashford has enjoyed a resurgence since joining Aston Villa, enjoyed a much better performance than the one against Albania.
Harry Kane – 8
Man United are planning a move for Kane in the summer transfer window, the England captain did what he does best, finding the back of the net to double the Three Lions’ lead.
Harry Kane scores once again
Substitutes
Eberechi Eze (on for Bowen 61′) – 8
Came off the bench to score his first senior goal for the Three Lions.
Phil Foden (on for Jude Bellingham 67′) – 7
Combined with fellow substitute Eze to assist England’s third goal.
Curtis Jones (on for Rashford 78′) – 6
Had little to do after coming on in a game that was already won.
Jordan Henderson (on for Rice 78′) – 6
Maintained composure in the late stages for his side.
Kyle Walker (on for Lewis-Skelly 78′) – 6
Looked eager to have an impact off the bench, but the match had slowed to a crawl by that point.
