Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has made a number of signings since joining the club and Chris Sutton has questioned one of those.

Postecoglou saw his team lose their fourth game on the bounce this weekend as Liverpool scored another four goals past Spurs.

The Tottenham boss has admitted in the last week that he needs to change things in the summer and there is an expectancy that players will be signed.

Of course, Postecoglou has been backed already with big money signings such as Brennan Johnson, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and goalkeeper, Vicario.

And while all of those signings have done well enough, Chris Sutton thinks the jury is still out when it comes to £47m signing, Brennan Johnson.

Chris Sutton makes claim about Brennan Johnson at Tottenham

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, Sutton admitted that most of Ange’s signings have been fine but suggested there are questions over forward Johnson.

“I think his [Postecoglou’s] transfers in the main, players who he has brought into the club I think we would all agree, have been a success. Vicario, Maddison, Van de Ven. Probably the jury is out a little bit on Brennan Johnson but I think he’s been pretty successful and now the comments he made last week about the need for change, I think like other managers, he needs a couple of transfer windows to get the players in to suit his style,” Sutton said.

Johnson needs time to improve at Tottenham

While it was a lot of money to shell out on the former Nottingham Forest man, the fact remains that Johnson is still only 22 and has only played Premier League football for two seasons now.

Over time, Johnson should improve and get better and with his pace and power, he has the right attributes to succeed as part of Ange’s Spurs.

Of course, he’s netted just the five goals this season and he’ll want a bigger return than that next year.

But the Welsh international has also contributed a healthy enough eight assists and when you combine both those goal contribution stats, it’s not a bad first season.

Yes, Johnson needs to improve. But he also needs time and in that time, he’ll hopefully prove a valuable addition for the club.
