Hertfordshire Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of sending ‘malicious communications’ to Sophia Havertz, the wife of Arsenal star Kai Havertz.

Mrs Havertz, 24, who is currently pregnant with their first child, hit out at anonymous Arsenal fans who sent threats to her and their unborn child.

The Hertfordshire constabulary has since confirmed that a 17-year-old from St Albans has been taken into custody on suspicion of sending malicious communications.

The abuse came after Arsenal’s elimination from the FA Cup having lost to Ruben Amorim’s struggling Man United earlier in January.

The 25-year-old Arsenal forward squandered a golden opportunity to secure victory for Mikel Arteta's side in time and then saw his penalty saved by United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir during the subsequent penalty shootout.

The police became involved after the club sought the assistance of data technology firm Signify to identify those responsible for the abusive messages.

The suspect has since been released on bail pending further investigation.

Havertz has been key for Arsenal so far this season, starting 26 of his 29 games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals, and providing three assists in his 2412 minutes on the field.

Havertz has featured in both of Arsenal’s games since, scoring in their 2-2 Premier League draw with Aston Villa having a second chalked off by VAR for a handball.

Arsenal host Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Wednesday (January 22) as they seek to take a big step towards qualification for the knock-out rounds.
