Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have had identical starts to the season with four points apiece after three Premier League games.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side headed into the international off the back of a loss to Newcastle United in a game that was actually dominated by Tottenham.

Chelsea couldn’t get the better of Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge last time out as Enzo Maresca continues to struggle for any consistency.

The two London clubs spent heavily in the summer transfer window with over £100 million leaving the pockets of both owners.

Dominic Solanke, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix are just a few of the big names that made their way to the capital.

And, now it appears as if these two clubs are set to battle it out for an exciting player…

Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham and Chelsea want to sign £35m ‘super talent’

Chelsea were involved in a bit of a Victor Osimhen saga towards the end of the window, and he’s ended up finding his way to Galatasaray as a last resort.

Tottenham had been linked with Eberechi Eze throughout the summer, but they decided not to make a move despite Crystal Palace already having a replacement lined up.

Now, Fabrizio Romano states that both Chelsea and Tottenham want to sign Patrick Dorgu.

“He was first of all in the list of Tottenham. One of the players Tottenham considered for the full-back position was Patrick Dorgu. Really appreciated by the club but not a deal to make this summer.

“Why? Because Patrick Dorgu was also in the list of Blue Co, so Chelsea, Strasboug. The idea was to sign the player for Strasbourg and then potentially move to Chelsea.

“But for both Tottenham and Blue Co, Chelsea, Strasbourg group the deal was considered too expensive because Lecce asked more for than £30m-£35m more than this to get the deal done.

“Lecce believe that Dorgu is a super talent, so Chelsea, Tottenham, several clubs follow him and monitoring him but is still considered too expensive.

“They want to make an investment on him still not spending crazy money because the player still has to develop but Lecce always say more than £30m-£35m for the player this summer and he stayed at the club.

“But keep an eye on this player for the future because I’m sure Tottenham and Chelsea will keep monitoring him.”

Do Spurs need Patrick Dorgu?

Tottenham already have the likes of Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie who can be called upon at left-back so there’s not a desperate need right now.

But, with Ange’s policy of signing youth players and having seen the rise of Udogie since his move from Italy, you can’t blame Spurs for thinking they can pull off a repeat.

A potential move may hinge on the Italian club dropping their price. At more than £35 million, that’s a hefty price to pay for a relatively unproven 19-year-old.

Although, Archie Gray was signed for around £30 million, showing that Spurs aren’t afraid to pay big prices for young players.
