Keith Wyness shares instant reaction after Celtic agree new deal

Aberdeen's former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he hoped Celtic would “show more ambition” rather than extending their sponsorship deal with Dafabet.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the new extension will not bring a big increase in revenue to Parkhead.
Celtic announced last week (13 December) that they have agreed to extend their Dafabet front-of-shirt sponsor deal by three years – until the 2027-28 campaign.
By the time the deal ends it will have been running for 12 consecutive years since the company first appeared on kit for the 2016-17 season.
The Scottish Premiership has not introduced a similar plan to the English Premier League, who will outlaw gambling sponsorships for 2026-27.
Celtic won’t bank major revenue boost after Dafabet extension, says Wyness
Wyness suggested there could be a break clause in the Celtic deal if they find a more attractive offer elsewhere.
He told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "I don't think this will bring a big increase.
"There could be European bonuses, and Celtic are doing ok in Europe right now.
"I imagine that's where any upside could come from.
"Obviously they've had a decent relationship with Dafabet, but I'd have hoped Celtic would show a bit more ambition and market themselves better.
"There could be break clauses, and lots of things we don't know about.
“They've got a base to work from here."
