LaLiga clubs express ‘concern’ after Dani Olmo and Pau Victor verdicts for Barcelona

A controversial injunction allowing Barcelona to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor has sparked worried statements from their rivals.
Barca, who have faced financial difficulties, only registered the two summer signings for the first half of the season amid LaLiga rules.
They couldn’t meet the league’s wage cap regulations and saw their request to have them involved for the rest of the campaign rejected.
However, the Spanish national sports council [CSD] responded to a Barca appeal on Wednesday and granted a precautionary measure.
Olmo and Victor are now available for Barcelona until their case against LaLiga and the Spanish Football Association [RFEF] is resolved.
“Good news for FC Barcelona,” a club statement read on Thursday.
“Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been registered for La Liga, and are therefore available for selection by coach Hansi Flick, including for Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup Final [against Real Madrid] at 8pm CET.”
The CSD also said that there would be ‘serious economic and sports damage’ to Barcelona and football players without the measure.
However, the decision to allow Olmo and Victor to be registered has caused agitation from other LaLiga clubs including Atletico Madrid.
“Club Atletico de Madrid wants to show its deep concern for the situation generated in Spanish football after the resolution adopted by the Consejo Superior de Deportes [“National Sports Council”] on Wednesday,” they said in a statement.
“We consider that this decision jeopardises the current system, questioning the rules of the game. The Ley del Deporte ['Sports Law'] itself includes and protects LaLiga’s economic control and yet, with this resolution, it is put at risk.
“LaLiga’s economic control has been the main tool that has managed to turn our football into a solvent sector, a process admired internationally. Our club, like all LaLiga members until this resolution, has been complying with the rules of economic control and we will continue to respect them.
“In fact, in order to be able to compete at the level we have been competing at in recent years, we have decided to carry out various capital increases, despite the enormous effort that this entails.
“This government intervention creates a very dangerous precedent, as it opens the door to circumventing the rules and repeating the serious mistakes of the past.
“Atlético de Madrid remains committed to rigour and responsible management. Without clear and equal rules for all, no fair competition is possible.”
RCD Espanyol also said: “RCD Espanyol wants to convey its concern and concern for the situation that has been generated in Spanish football after the resolution adopted and made public by the Superior Council of Sports, in the cases of footballers Dani Olmo and Pau Victor of FC Barcelona.
“The decision to grant an urgent precautionary measure, of a provisional nature until the appeal presented is definitively resolved, has created a very dangerous precedent and poses a threat to the integrity of the competition, as other clubs, as well as the RFEF and LaLiga, have denounced in different statements and communications.
“RCD Espanyol, which maintains its absolute commitment to the competition, has strictly complied with the regulations on economic control and will continue to do so, despite the tensions, limitations and difficulties that these economic regulations generate.
“As has been stated in different forums, we understand that the rigorous economic control applied in recent years has allowed to ensure the sustainability of many clubs.
“The Sports Law itself includes and protects this economic control of LaLiga and, however, with this resolution the rule approved and accepted by all professional clubs is put at risk.
“The main players in football in this country: LALIGA and the RFEF have maintained a common and firm position from their respective powers throughout the process.
“However, the CSD has exposed and disavowed both institutions with its decision. RCD Espanyol urges a review of this resolution that generates uncertainty and threatens the principles of equality and justice in the competition.”
Olmo has scored six goals in 15 appearances in attacking midfield for Barcelona since his reported €60million [£50.3million] move from RB Leipzig.
Victor on the other hand has featured 17 times after his initial loan move from Girona was made permanent.
