Rangers’ fortunes will be transformed by the financial and business nous that 49ers Enterprises will implement at Ibrox.
Rangers are set for another trophyless season after their defeat in the Europa League quarter-finals by Athletic Bilbao last week, and sit an unassailable 15 points behind Celtic at the top of the Premiership.
However, 49ers Enterprises’ arrival is set to have a transformational effect at Ibrox, and former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Football Insider that Rangers already have an ideal example to follow.
Robinson previously told Football Insider that Rangers “couldn’t have asked for a better investor” than the 49ers, and that example has come to pass with Leeds bound for a return to the Premier League.
Leeds have had further exterior investment since the US group took charge at Elland Road, with record-breaking sponsorship agreements with Red Bull and significant money spent both on and off the pitch.
Leeds United set the example for 49ers at Rangers
The 49ers have already outlined how they plan to succeed at Rangers, and a strong summer transfer window is the priority at Ibrox once their first managerial appointment has been made at season’s end.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Robinson said that if 49ers Enterprises run Rangers in the same way they’ve managed Leeds, success could soon be back on the horizon at Ibrox.
“You look at the model of what the 49ers have done at Leeds and you look at the way that they’ve run the club. It’s not been massive gross overspending, it’s not been an influx of players.
“Granted, they spent a lot at Leeds at the start of the season – more than some Premier League clubs – but they strengthened in areas that the squad needed strengthening. They didn’t go waste a load of money on one player.
“It was a restructuring of quality – they’ve not only got the investment from Red Bull, but they’ve got the business now from Red Bull; the two businesses running side by side, how financially sound and structured they are.
“It’s only good for Rangers. It puts them in a position of strength where they are able to keep their better players, but they understand the game where certain players do have to go and allow a manager the opportunity to restructure with the finances.
“Leeds have been extremely well run since they’ve come in, and if that’s the way that things are going to go at Glasgow Rangers, there’s only good things ahead for them."
Rangers ready for long-awaited new era at Ibrox
The arrival of 49ers Enterprises draws a line in the sand for the Light Blues, with the new custodians at Ibrox set to announce Rangers’ next permanent manager once Barry Ferguson’s interim tenure ends.
Football Insider revealed last month that the 49ers will give Rangers’ new manager a £25million transfer budget to spend this summer, with such a significant financial outlay needed to close the gap on Celtic.
Star players like Hamza Igamane and Nico Raskin’s futures will be the subject of transfer speculation aplenty, but the 49ers will aim to keep hold of the pair while building a squad able to compete at the top.
