Leeds United target Louie Barry has taken to social media to like a post linking him with a move away from Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old spent the first of the season on loan at Stockport County, his send spell at the club, before being recalled by parent club Aston Villa.

Barry was key for the League One side over the last six months, starting 22 of his 24 games across all competitions, scoring 16 goals, and providing three assists in his 1812 minutes of action.

His fine form has earned him admirers in the Championship, with Leeds and Sunderland, among others, vying for his signature in the January transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, Daniel Farke’s side retains an interest in the winger and are hoping to secure a loan move this winter.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Villa’s game against Leicester, Unai Emery opened the door to a potential move.

Emery said: “We are happy with him. If he can help us, he will do it. But in case, his progression is better to go on loan and to play more and more and get minutes and confidence, playing at a higher level than he played, of course, is the plan with him.”

Leeds and Sunderland battle it out for Louie Barry as promotion race heats up

Leeds went three points clear at the top of the table despite drawing 1-1 with Blackburn thanks to Burnley's 0-0 draw with Stoke and Sheffield United's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

Sunderland have fallen off the pace somewhat after an impressive start to the campaign, sitting in fourth, five points off Farke’s side.

Barry appears to favour a move to the Stadium of Light, however, liking a comment from a fan on one of his Instagram posts that said: “Brilliant Louie, now hopefully you’ll sign for Sunderland and do the same up here.”

Leeds currently have an impressive 29 goal difference, seven more than Burnley and 11 more than Sheffield United, meaning they will likely remain at the top of the table regardless of the results around them this weekend.

Sunderland have the opportunity to gain some ground on the league leaders should they beat struggling Portsmouth on Sunday (January 5).
