Leeds United star Willy Gnonto thanks Rutter after Brighton thrash Man United

Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto sent a message to his former teammate Georginio Rutter after his goal for Brighton helped defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Fabian Hurzeler's side took an early lead through Yankuba Minteh, which was briefly equalised by a Bruno Fernandes penalty. However, they regained control with goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Rutter, who sealed an impressive 3-1 victory.
This marks the third consecutive game Rutter has scored in, following his brace against Norwich and a late strike against Ipswich.
He took to Instagram to celebrate the victory, captioning his post: “In French we say INCROYABLE!”
Leeds fans may have noticed Gnonto commenting on the post, simply writing "Merci" (Thank you in French) with a heart emoji.
Georginio Rutter thrives after unhappy Leeds United exit
The Whites have struggled against rivals Man United in recent years, but the recent interaction between Rutter and former teammate Gnonto could bring a smile to some fans' faces.
The two formed a dynamic partnership during their time at Elland Road. Last season, the duo combined for 15 goals and 19 assists in the Championship, showcasing their chemistry.
Despite the disappointment surrounding his departure, Rutter has proven to be a brilliant signing for his new club, registering nine goals and assists so far this season. He has played every game for manager Fabian Hurzeler in the league.
Meanwhile, Gnonto and Leeds have enjoyed a strong season. They recently beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-0, although Gnonto only played a 7-minute cameo.
Leeds currently sit top of the Championship, one point ahead of Sheffield United, and three points clear of third place.
Football Insider Verdict
The Italian winger was heavily linked with a move away last summer but has been pivotal for Daniel Farke’s side, contributing four goals and five assists.
With both players excelling in their teams, there’s potential for them to face off in the future. If they can both cause issues to Man United, like Rutter did over the weekend, both sets of fans will leave happy.
