Legendary football stadium looks unrecognisable as redevelopment update posted

The rebuild of Barcelona’s legendary stadium is coming along nicely, but it still looks unrecognisable with plenty of construction work to do.

The Camp Nou is currently having its capacity increased to 105,000 as part of a modernisation of the site.

A new roof is also being added to the ground, which has been Barca’s home since 1957.

Footage from the stands at the Camp Nou show cranes being used in the centre of the stadium where the pitch usually is.

The interior of the ground is starting to take shape as seats continue to be added to the top tier.

As well as the club’s famous red and blue colours, the logo of sponsors Spotify is beginning to become visible in the seating.

However, completion of the £1.25billion project still appears some way off despite additional footage showing the roof and exterior also taking shape.

Barca had planned to make a return to their home stadium next month after moving out last season as work began.

Their December target now appears in jeopardy at the midway point in November.

The club were hoping to use the Camp Nou at a reduced capacity until the work is completed in 2026.

Their is currently no pitch and less than a single tier of seating installed inside the arena, though.

During the redevelopment, the Blaugrana have been playing at the nearby Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

The venue was previously home to city rivals Espanyol for 12 years whilst their stadium was being constructed.

Meanwhile, the 55,926-capacity ground also hosted the 1992 Olympics as well as multiple NFL games during the 1990s.

Despite playing away from their famous stadium, Barca have made a strong start to the season under Hansi Flick.

The La Liga leaders are six points clear of Real Madrid after winning 11 of their opening 13 league matches.
