Leicester fan tackled by Walsall player after running onto pitch to berate Steve Cooper during Carabao Cup tie

An angry Leicester City fan stormed onto the pitch to confront Steve Cooper during their Carabao Cup clash on Tuesday night.

The Foxes had been facing Walsall at the Bescott Stadium when the tie was forced to penalties with the score level at 0-0.

While Leicester progressed to the last 16 thanks to a 3-0 penalty shootout win, one supporter wasn’t impressed.

Making his way onto the pitch in the 73rd minute of the match, the supporter ran towards Cooper and the Leicester bench to make his feelings known.

The fan was brought down by a Walsall defender David Okagbue, before stewards were able to get their hands on him as he was dragged away.

Leicester midfielder Hamza Choudhury also had words with the supporter as he made his way off the pitch.

While the Foxes did advance into the next round, they couldn’t make their dominance on the ball count.

Despite having 75 per cent possession against the League Two side, Leicester didn’t record a shot on target until the 77th minute.

Thankfully for them, their goalkeeper was in fine form as the penalty shootout came around.

Danny Ward, who was between the sticks for the cup clash, saved three spot kicks out of three to send Leicester through.

However, the manner of their performance was clearly a cause for concern among supporters.

Speaking after the game Cooper said: "We obviously made harder work of it than we hoped and than we should have but it's not always as easy is it might be and tonight is an example of that.

"Overall it's a performance that could and should have been better – at times we gave Walsall too much hope in the game and obviously being away and the Walsall crowd got behind the team so it was a situation that we had to manage.

"For all of the ball that we had there's no doubt that we weren't enough of a threat in the third.

"That was probably the biggest lack of impact in the game – we got into decent area high up the pitch and just didn't make it count.

"As the night went on it maybe got a little bit harder. We maybe tried too hard at times and we ended up having to go through on a penalty shootout."

Leicester currently sit 15th in the Premier League, two points outside of the relegation zone.

Cooper is already feeling the heat after replacing Enzo Maresca over the summer, with the former Nottingham Forest boss tasked with keeping them in the Premier League.

But without a win in their opening five fixtures, fans are gearing up for what could be a long, hard season.

Things don’t get any easier for the Foxes either, with their next match being a trip to face Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.
