England were beaten 4-3 by Germany after a sluggish start at Wembley proved costly.

Despite hopes of recreating their 2-1 Euro 2022 final result, Sarina Wiegman’s side endured a torrid first half that saw the visitors take control.

The Lionesses defence let them down on multiple occasions.

It was a nightmare start for England with Leah Williamson and Millie Bright punished for their mistakes, bringing down Linda Dallmann in the box in a last-ditch challenge.

Giulia Gwinn scored from the spot and the goals just kept on rolling.

The Lionesses’ poor defending continued to be their demise with three goals coming in the first half an hour of play.

It was the first time since November 2014 that the Lionesses have conceded three goals in the first half.

To add even more salt to their wounds, the last time this happened was against Germany, losing 3-0 in a friendly at Wembley.

Two goals from Georgia Stanway and Lucy Bronze saw England fight their way back into the game, but it wasn’t enough as Germany ran out as winners.

More to follow.
