Liverpool will be disappointed that they could not put in a better account of themselves in their 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Manchester United fans mocked the Anfield atmosphere as their side put in their standout display under Ruben Amorim against arguably the best team in Europe.

For Liverpool however, it could be claimed that they could consider themselves fortunate not to have lost on Sunday.

If Harry Maguire had not skied his last-minute attempt from close quarters, Manchester United would have beaten the hosts in style.

Tensions were high at Anfield as Virgil van Dijk screamed at Trent Alexander-Arnold on multiple instances for leaving him on an island.

But one Liverpool player who could leave with his head held high after his performance against the Red Devils was Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool fans claim Alexis Mac Allister was their best player vs Manchester United

Reds supporters’ felt Mac Allister was their best performer against Manchester United as well.

One Liverpool supporter claimed: “Alexis Mac Allister was probably our best player tonight. He was our best player for the entire first-half.”

Another Liverpool fan wrote: “Mac Allister is an exceptional footballer. Best on the pitch.”

A third Liverpool fan slated Gary Neville for claiming Kobbie Mainoo was the best midfielder on the pitch instead of the £35 million (Sky Sports) man.

“Gary Neville needs to stop commenting on United games, he's watched Mac Allister live and determined Mainoo was the best midfielder today.”

More Liverpool fans sang Mac Allister’s praises despite their disappointing result against Manchester United.

A fourth Liverpool fan analysed how excellent the Argentine international is when competing in duels, writing: “Mac Allister is the best one-v-one duelling player in the league. I'd have chosen him to win the ball in a duel over any other player in the league.”

A Liverpool supporter wrote: Mac Allister. “The ultimate general. I'll never forget what you did today.”

Last but not least, a sixth Liverpool fan simply said: “Can't believe there are people out there who don't believe that Mac Allister is world-class.”

Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister admits the result was not “good enough” vs Man United

However, the World Cup winner was not focused on his heroics and instead frustrated by the result.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mac Allister admitted: “The result is not good enough. The performance was not as good as we wanted but at the end of the day it was a fair result.

“We didn’t play as we wanted and conceded too many chances and had opportunities to score more goals.

“The effort was there, the mentality was there because we came back but when you’re 2-1 at 75 minutes, you have to defend better and we couldn’t do it so we have to think about what we did wrong and move on.”

Liverpool fans may even appreciate Mac Allister’s comments more than his actual performance as they highlighted the elite mentality that this side needs to become hugely successful under Arne Slot.
