Liverpool fans send clear Jonathan David message after win over Lille
Today at 12:15 AM
Liverpool have cemented their place at the top of the Champions League table after running out 2-1 winners over Lille on Tuesday night.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a superb first-time finish from an equally outstanding Curtis Jones through-ball.
However, Lille goal machine Jonathan David equalised just after the hour, making the most of a Kostas Tsimikas ricochet to slam home.
Liverpool didn’t need long to go in front again as Harvey Elliott scored via a deflection midway through the second half.
A number of Liverpool fans had a clear message for the club regarding David, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Liverpool fans want their club to sign Jonathan David
Liverpool fans urged their club to consider making a move for David at the end of the season, as he’s a top talent set to be available for nothing.
One fan wrote on X: “Jonathan David shouldn’t be allowed to leave the UK until he signs for LFC. He’d be the perfect number 9 for the team.”
Another said: “David looked sharp as hell, looks good – he’s a free agent next summer.”
The calls to sign David kept coming, with one fan writing: “We should sign David.
“Literally getting a top striker for free and then going all out for Baleba and Kerkez completes the team.”
Another said: “Liverpool fans… crystal ball moment. Say Salah leaves in the summer….. sign Jonathan David on a free?”
Another supporter wrote: “Well, he scored. Now Arne, do what Klopp would do and sign Jonathan David.”
What Jonathan David thinks about Liverpool
David has described Liverpool as probably the best team in the world right now, praising the Reds right after Tuesday’s match.
"Very good team," the Canada international told Amazon Prime. "I think they might be the best team in the world at the moment.
"Tonight is one more goal [for me]. I'm happy I managed to score but we didn't manage to get the three points."
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Champions League | 7 | 5 | 1 |
Ligue 1 | 18 | 11 | 2 |
UCL qualifiers | 4 | 2 | 2 |
Coupe de France | 2 | – | 2 |
David is on the radar of West Ham and Manchester United, while Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United have also been linked with David.
Liverpool’s front line is strong at present, but the Reds’ knack for swooping to sign players when the opportunity arises cannot be discounted in the coming months.
