Liverpool News: Brighton make 'huge' Joao Pedro demand - Expert

Brighton will demand a “huge” fee if they are to sell Joao Pedro amid interest from Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that any deal is more likely to happen at the end of the season.

However, the 23-year-old has attracted attention from multiple top clubs thanks to his performances for the Seagulls, where he has established himself as a key player.

So far this season, he has scored four goals and picked up three assists in ten Premier League appearances and has proven he can play as a striker, winger or number ten.

That versatility is seen as a valuable asset for top sides, although Brown has raised concerns about Pedro’s ability to step up to an elite club like Liverpool.

The former scout recalled watching him play for Watford and claimed he has improved since then and is performing well for Brighton, with the Reds’ scouts making their assessments.

However, his importance to Fabian Hurzeler’s side has become clear as he remains a key player when fit and available, and they are reluctant to see him leave.

Brighton respond to Liverpool interest in Joao Pedro

Pedro signed for Brighton in 2023 for a then-club record £30million fee, and could be set to make a substantial profit on his sale just two years later.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted he would be surprised if a deal happened in January given the finances involved.

“Brighton are going to demand a huge fee for him,” he told Football Insider.

“I’ve heard there’s some interest from Liverpool, but how far along that interest is, I’m not sure.

“I’d be surprised if it happens in January, given the money it would cost and the sorts of deals which usually take place in the middle of the season.

“I remember watching Joao Pedro a lot when he was at Watford, and he’s certainly a talented player.

“I had doubts at the time about whether he would be able to step up to the real elite level, but he’s performing well for Brighton and clubs have been watching him.

“I must admit I’m still uncertain whether he’s the right fit for a side like Liverpool, but that will be up to their scouts to make their assessments.“
