'Liverpool prepare for Mohamed Salah exit after David Ornstein latest'
Liverpool appear to be laying the groundwork for Mohamed Salah’s departure from Anfield after the latest transfer news from David Ornstein.
The Egyptian has enjoyed another outstanding individual campaign that has already seen him score 21 goals and provide 17 assists in just 28 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
That comes amid a back drop of uncertainty around his future, with his contract at Anfield due to expire in the summer, and it still to be confirmed if he will sign a new one, despite plenty of talk on the situation.
Now it seems as though Liverpool may be bracing themselves for Salah to depart Merseyside in the near future with their latest transfer plans.
Liverpool weigh-up Kvaratskhelia move amid Salah uncertainty
According to a new update from Ornstein, via The Athletic, the Reds could make a move for Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia if he does become available this month.
That would certainly seem to suggest that Liverpool are making contingency plans for life after Salah, given it is obvious he would need to be replaced if he does move on from Anfield considering his current influence on the side.
Kvaratskhelia is someone with the potential to fill that role, and not just because of the fact that he too would operate in that wide berth.
The Georgia international also knows how to win trophies, having been a driving force behind Napoli’s Serie A title win back in the 2022/23 campaign.
He has also helped the club to top spot in the Italian top-flight in the current season as things stand, so Liverpool know he has the potential to step into the void Salah would leave if he departs.
That will be vital if they are to continue competing for the trophies they crave, and such a deal would be a show of intent to everyone that they are ready to continue to do so even if their talisman goes.
Of course, it is also worth noting that at 32-years-old Salah is starting to approach the latter stages of his career as it is.
So even if he does sign a new contract beyond the end of this season, he may not be at Liverpool for all that much longer.
By contrast Kvaratskhelia is still only 23, and so with plenty of time remaining in his own career, he would be a more long-term option at Anfield if he was brought to the club.
That too could indicate that the Reds are planning for life without Salah, something they simply have to do given the key man behind their title charge is going to move on eventually one way or another.
The Georgian is some way off the guarantee of goals that the Liverpool legend is but arguably fits a similar profile of the player that originally arrived from Roma back in 2017.
In other news, Ryan Gravenberch has sent a message to Liverpool fans after their Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham.
