Liverpool fans expect the club to let the Italian winger leave in January after being benched for the FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley.

The 27-year-old has struggled for fitness since joining the club and has only made one appearance in the Premier League this season.

The FA Cup match-up against League Two side Accrington looked like the perfect opportunity to give the Italian some much needed minutes in a Liverpool shirt, but manager Arne Slot instead chose to start 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

Chiesa was a key player for Juventus last season, starting 33 league games and scoring nine goals, and the signing looked like a coup for the Merseyside club.

It was hoped that the Italian may offer an alternative to Mohamed Salah, as the Egyptian could be on his way out of Anfield, but the lack of game-time leaves that idea in tatters.

However, the former Fiorentina winger’s injury history was already a concern last season and he has not been able to find his fitness.

His time at Liverpool was already cast into doubt as there are rumours that the Reds could be in to sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Chiesa rose to fame in England during Euro 2020, as the pacey winger ran riot during the tournament and was part of the Italian side that beat England in the final.

Despite his obvious talent, his lack of availability has been a source of frustration for fans of the Premier League leaders and they took to social media to voice their opinions.

One fan said that “Chiesa is finished,” whilst another called for him to be “sold tonight.”
