Martin Odegaard is set for a spell on the sidelines at Arsenal.

The Norwegian picked up an ankle injury on international duty, and after missing the north London derby at the weekend, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the midfielder is set for some serious time on the sidelines.

Arteta didn't put a date on Odegaard's return to action, but according to Arsenal insider, Team News and Ticks, writing on his Patreon, Odegaard will be out for a little while.

Indeed, according to the reporter, Arsenal used a strategy before the Tottenham game to suggest that Odegaard would potentially be back for the north London derby, but it now looks like the Arsenal captain won't be back until November.

Martin Odegaard won't be back until November

The insider shared what he knows about Odegaard and his injury.

"Now Arsenal have finally admitted it’s significant," He wrote.

"The club used a strategy pre-Tottenham to say it was a matter of days but have now decided they can’t keep going along with that

"It’s looking like a November return."

Martin Odegaard will be a huge miss

This is a disaster for Arsenal, and replacing Odegaard really won't be easy.

Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz played together against Tottenham on Sunday, but that wasn't the most fluid of partnerships.

Frustratingly, Arsenal don't have that like-for-like number 10 to come into the team at the moment after selling Emile Smith Rowe and loaning out Fabio Vieira in the summer.

Vieira and Smith Rowe would be logical replacements for Odegaard, but Arsenal have sold themselves short slightly.

Luckily for Arsenal, there's another international break in a few weeks' time, so Odegaard shouldn't miss a massive number of games, but, he will miss the crunch clash against Manchester City this weekend.

Whether or not Arsenal can navigate this period without Odegaard remains to be seen, but, one thing is for sure, this is going to be a serious challenge for Mikel Arteta’s side.
