Aberdeen's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Luis Palma’s move from Celtic to Rayo Vallecano is not dead despite a transfer ban at the Spanish club.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the situation can be resolved easily and we could see the 24-year-old resurrect the move “in the next week or so”.
As per The Scottish Sun (13 January) Rayo Vallecano had been primed to take Palma on a loan until the end of the 2024-25 campaign with an option to buy of just over £2million.
However, the Spanish side were hit with a shock transfer ban overnight by Fifa which has seen the deal hit the rocks.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers gave Palma the weekend off following the news but has confirmed the winger will return to the squad until his future is resolved.
He has played just 252 minutes of football for the Hoops this term and is yet to score or assist.
Rayo Vallecano tipped to revive deal for Celtic star Palma
Wyness told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "When I looked into Rayo Vallecano's transfer ban – it sounded draconian.
"The club were surprised, they had no idea this was coming.
"It's an £85,000 debt which is late, and I'm sure that can be cleared.
"I understand the club is not in great financial shape, but I'm sure there's someone who can clear off that debt – it could even be part of the Celtic deal.
"It's not a significant issue.
"I understand the player has had some personal issues, and this move has broken down overnight – so I feel sorry for him.
"But I expect it to be resolved in the next week or so, and certainly before the end of the window.
"I'm not aware of all the details, but I'm sure we'll see Palma in Spain before too long."
