Man City get 'vote of confidence from Sheikh Mansour' after confirmed news
02/20/2025 03:00 AM
Man City owner Sheikh Mansour has only attended two games in person but has been the driving force behind their ascent in the English game.
He purchased the Citizens in 2008 and founded the City Football Group (CFG) in 2014 – which consists of several clubs worldwide.
CFG issued a total of £420million A Preference Shares in June and November last year – an investment which was initially thought to be from private equity firm Silver Lake, who own a minority stake in the group.
But a Companies House submission last month (23 January) revealed Mansour's vehicle Newton Investment and Development made the cash injection and increased his stake in CFG.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on what that could mean for Man City.
Sheikh Mansour behind £420m Man City investment
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the move is a “vote of confidence” from Sheikh Mansour, who last attended a City game when they beat Inter Milan in the 2023 Champions League final.
The ex-Everton CEO insisted the new investment is “very much a positive” amid the 115 charges legal fight with the Premier League.
He told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "This investment is another vote of confidence from Sheikh Mansour.
"He and Silver Lake are going to be playing ball together.
"There's no doubt he sees the group as a major investment, they've knitted together a great organisation.
"It's an investment in the overall group, not just in Man City.
"It's very much a positive and that shows there is faith in the overall structure from the UAE."
Bernardo Silva could exit as Man City rebuild intensifies
Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 February) that Man City star Bernardo Silva is wanted by clubs in Spain, Portugal and Saudi Arabia.
Silva will assess his City future at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Kyle Walker has already moved to Italian giants AC Milan, while City's rebuild could ramp up further in June when Kevin De Bruyne is out of contract.
