Man City 'ready to sign' the 'Swedish Lionel Messi' on free transfer

Man City are set to try and sign FC Copehagen's Rooney Bardghji on a free transfer during the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that City have had a long-term interest in the player who has been dubbed "the Swedish Messi."
The 19-year-old burst onto the scene a couple of seasons ago when he became the youngest-ever player to score against Man United in the Champions League back when he was just 17.
The Sweden Under-21 international has been developing ever since, but he has had a tough year after missing the whole season due to a cruciate knee ligament injury.
The right winger is out of contract at FC Copenhagen in 2025, but in Denmark contracts run until December due to how their season operates.
City could secure his services on a free transfer which is being viewed as a "no-brainer" for the club.
Man City want to lower their average age
Bardghji is looking to get back to his best between now and December in a bid to prove his qualities as a player.

If the winger is able to find the form he had prior to his injury then it is expected that there will be numerous clubs looking for his signature, giving City some competition.
City are hoping to lower the average age of the squad during the summer transfer window, and Bardghji ticks that box for Pep Guardiola.

It has been a disappointing season for City in all competitions, with the club struggling to find consistent form.
The Premier League giants are looking to put this campaign behind them and immediately get back to their best which is why City are set for a major squad overhaul after spending £180million in January.
Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens is another player who City have their eyes on after he left the club's academy back in 2020.
