'Man United to pay half Marcus Rashford salary for Arsenal move'

Marcus Rashford would be a good signing for Arsenal if Man United pay half of his wages, Jay Bothroyd has suggested.

The 27-year-old has not been included in the last three match-day squads named by manager Ruben Amorim, and recently admitted that he may need to move on to a “new challenge” (via Henry Winter).

Given his high wages, thought to be over £300,000 per week (BBC Sport), it has been suggested that the Red Devils may have to cover some of his wages in a potential January loan exit.

Now Gunners fan Bothroyd believes Arsenal should look to take advantage of that opportunity if it does indeed emerge because he’d be an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News on 22 December (1:08pm) the one-time England international said: “I tell you what, I would take him at Arsenal. Obviously we can’t pay £300,000-a-week but if Man United are to pay half of that salary and at the end of the season the fee is not that much I would take him at Arsenal.

“It’s a new challenge. On song he’s better than Martinelli… he’d have to take a pay cut but if he plays with the sort of enthusiasm and the kind of quality that we’ve seen in the past, we’ve seen Jadon Sancho, for example, leave Man United and go to Chelsea, all of a sudden he looks like a different player.

“If I see that kind of enthusiasm from Marcus Rashford then of course he’s better than Martinelli.”

Arsenal may need to consider move for Marcus Rashford

Football Insider Opinion

Bothroyd is not the first pundit to have suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side should be looking into a move for Rashford recently.

As a result there may be a case to be made for Arsenal trying to complete such a move when the window opens next month.

Gabriel Martinelli and Raheem Sterling – who is only on loan from Chelsea – have both struggled on the left of their attack this season.

They may therefore need to strengthen that area of the pitch in the transfer market, and it is one where Rashford does his best work.

Considering how things have gone for the Man United man recently there would be an element of risk associated with such a move for Arsenal, even if they could get a financial arrangement on the move similar to the one which brought Sterling from Stamford Bridge.

If Rashford can rediscover the form he has shown in the past at Old Trafford then he could still be a big asset for the Gunners when compared with the likes of Sterling and Martinelli.

In other news, Raheem Sterling has sent a message to an Arsenal star after their win over Crystal Palace.
