Manchester United can wrap up a deal for Bayern Munich defender Mathijs de Ligt quickly once Euro 2024 is finished, with the player keen on the move and the Germans open to the sale.

That's according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who reports that Manchester United were left 'surprised' at Bayern Munich's willingness to do a deal.

Manchester United's efforts to sign De Ligt have been developing quickly over the last week, with them seemingly turning their attention to the Dutchman after moves for other central defenders fell by the wayside.

It's quickly picked up from there, with reports explaining a deal was being worked on and Erik ten Hag had even spoken to De Ligt about the move.

He knows the player from their time together at Ajax and has seemingly convinced him into the move to Old Trafford this summer.

Plettenberg now picks up on that and explains that a deal between Manchester United and Ajax 'can happen quickly' once the central defender is done with the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

Bayern are currently looking for a deal worth €50m plus bonuses for the defender, but it is unclear whether Manchester United will match that figure.

They've been in contact either way and were left surprised by Bayern's willingness to sell the centre-back, which means the door is very much open to it happening. That's strengthened by the fact De Ligt has made it clear he is keen on the move after talks with Ten Hag.

It's now up to the relevant parties to get the deal done, but the wheels are turning and there appears to be a growing belief in Germany, at least, that it will happen.
