Chelsea striker Marc Guiu impressed against Astana in the Conference League and a Premier League loan would now be "invaluable", according to Joe Cole.

Chelsea maintained their perfect European record with a 3-1 win over Astana today (12 December).

Guiu has played most of his games in the Conference League and scored an electrifying solo goal to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead. His contribution proved vital for the second goal, though it was variously credited to him and as an own goal.

This performance had former Chelsea player Cole praising Guiu on TNT Sports. He suggested that a few Premier League clubs could now be considering taking him for the remainder of the season in January, as it would be "invaluable" since he’s third-choice striker behind Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku.

Speaking on TNT Sports at half-time (4.34pm), he said: "Marc Guiu, 18 years old. He's got Nkunku in front of him, Nicolas Jackson in front of him. But there might be a few clubs in the Premier League looking at him because of the way he's played in this competition thinking, 'We could take him on loan'."

He added, "That would be an invaluable experience for him."

Chelsea have a plethora of options, that may need to leave for more game time

Guiu joined Chelsea from Barcelona for £5million in the summer [BBC Sport]. The signing surprised many, especially as Chelsea had been heavily linked to Victor Osimhen.

They had also agreed a deal for Samu Aghehowa before it fell through, leading to the re-signing of Joao Felix instead.

The 18-year-old has waited for opportunities, and against Astana, he seized one. His frame and technical ability, undoubtedly developed at La Masia, have impressed fans and pundits alike.

Guiu may need to move to secure more playing time, as he finds himself behind Jackson and Nkunku in the pecking order. However, the Frenchman could leave in January, which may open a spot for the Spaniard.

Players who struggle for minutes due to a bloated squad have already linked with moves away, including players his age. This includes Carney Chukwuemeka, who is attracting interest from Premier League and European clubs.

A loan move seems likely at this stage, as he only recently joined Chelsea. A permanent exit would be unlikely for now. With Enzo Maresca at the helm and performances like today, Guiu's chance at Chelsea will come.

In other news, Josh Acheampong news could mean an exit for Reece James.
