'Marco Silva left in shock at Fulham double-blow vs Crystal Palace'

03/29/2025 11:19 AM
Fulham manager Marco Silva was spotted looking stunned as his side were on the end of a double whammy in their FA Cup quarter final clash with Crystal Palace.
On the whole this has been an outstanding season for the Cottagers, who are challenging for Champions League qualification in the Premier League.
They had also made it to the last eight in the FA Cup, giving rise to some hopes that they could end their wait for major silverware.
Indeed, Silva’s work with Fulham has even seen him linked with Tottenham to replace the under fire Ange Postecoglou.
All of that progress from the West London club was however dealt a considerable setback by Palace on Saturday afternoon (29 March).
Fulham FA Cup hopes ended by Crystal Palace
It was not to be for the Cottagers as their quest for a trophy this season was brought to a shuddering halt on their own turf.
Fulham were well below-par in a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, denying them a trip to Wembley for the semi finals next month.
After a goalless opening half an hour, Eberechi Eze‘s excellent strike from the edge of the area put the visitors 1-0 up with 34 minutes on the clock.
Fulham last five games | Result |
Wolves (A) | Won 2-1 |
Man United (A) | Drew 1-1 (won 4-3 on penalties) |
Brighton (A) | Lost 2-1 |
Tottenham (H) | Won 2-0 |
Crystal Palace (H) | Lost 3-0 |
Just four minutes later, Eze turned provider as his cross was headed in at the near post by Ismaila Sarr to double the lead for the Eagles and put them firmly in control of the tie.
The quickfire nature of the way the game was taken away from Fulham is something that appeared to catch Silva off-guard.
Speaking about the Portuguese manager’s reaction to those two goals on BBC 5Live Sport, the former Cottagers goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer, said: “We are seeing pictures of Marco Silva on the sideline and I don’t think he can believe what he has seen.
“Fulham are feeling a bit sorry for themselves at the minute but you have to give Palace credit, they have absorbed the pressure and they have been ruthless in front of goal.”
Marco Silva sees his side miss a big opportunity
Football Insider Verdict
With so many of the so-called big six sides already out of the competition, Silva will have seen this as a major chance for his side to pick up some silverware.
Given the way this game had started as well with Fulham applying much of the pressure, they will have felt they were in a position to move closer to a long-awaited trophy.
However, those two quickfire goals from Crystal Palace took the game away from the Cottagers leaving them with a mountain to climb, something they were unable to do.
That will make the nature of the defeat hugely frustrating, especially for Fulham fans who made their desire for Silva to stay clear during that game.
But with the hopes of a trophy now gone – also making it harder to reach Europe – the Cottagers boss may be inclined to consider his position should an opportunity arise elsewhere amid those rumours.
As a result, this defeat to Crystal Palace may prove to be damaging for Fulham for more than one reason.
