'Marco Silva to quit Fulham after FA Cup knockout v Crystal Palace'

Marco Silva could already be prepared to part ways with Fulham after failing to advance to the FA Cup semi-finals against Crystal Palace.
Silverware has been tough to come by at Craven Cottage, other than lifting the Championship title in 2022, but there was a sliver of hope that the FA Cup could solve that for the Cottagers this season.
With Pep Guardiola’s Man City the only “big team” left in the competition, there was every chance of Silva’s side reaching Wembley Stadium to fight for the country’s most prestigious trophy.
However, after goals from Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah, Oliver Glasner’s Palace side were just too much for them to handle as Fulham went crashing out in the quarter-finals on Saturday 29 March.
This dramatically cuts the Cottagers’ chances of playing European football next season, with the FA Cup a safer avenue than finishing up high enough in the Premier League table, and that could contribute to seeing Silva turn away this summer.
Marco Silva has options to leave Fulham this summer
Having left Watford for Everton in 2018, the manager is under no illusion of his own talents and is prepared to make the leap of faith, albeit his time at Goodison Park was rather underwhelming.
Silva has reportedly been shortlisted to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, with the North London side completely underwhelming over the last two seasons.
While Spurs’ only chance of qualifying for Europe next season is by winning the Europa League this term, many would argue that Daniel Levy’s side has far more potential and opportunity for him to thrive.
Levy has recently sanctioned big-money moves for Archie Gray, Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert, and even attempted to lure Marc Guehi to Tottenham during the winter transfer window.
Premier League standings | Goals for | Goals against | Goal difference | Points |
8. Fulham | 43 | 38 | +5 | 47 |
14. Tottenham | 55 | 43 | +12 | 34 |
Fulham are struggling to match Marco Silva’s ambitions at Craven Cottage
Fulham, however, have sold the likes of Joao Palinha and Aleksandar Mitrovic in recent seasons, clearly choosing profit over building a Europe-challenging side, and one that can challenge in the league.
With many big stars leaving Craven Cottage, Silva has proven himself with a limited budget, so if his team cannot quite make the cut this season, he will be in high demand for other struggling clubs across Europe.
The likes of Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler are all destined for bigger moves, and should any of them miss out on Europe this season, it could be tough to turn down an exit.
Although Silva has shown no signs of wanting to part ways with the Cottagers, his frustration during the clash against Palace was evident, and those kinds of results could sway his decision once the campaign comes to a close.
Fulham’s lack of ambition, in terms of European targets and keeping hold of key players in the transfer market, could all play into the manager’s decision before the 2025/26 campaign kicks off.
