Matheus Cunha contract talks 'hit stumbling block' after Wolves 'agreement'

Everton's former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the agent of Wolves star Matheus Cunha has the club “over a barrel” with a twist popping up in contract negotiations.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed the 25-year-old’s new deal is “not quite cut and dried” despite widespread reports, but he still expects it to get done.
Reports have claimed Cunha has agreed a new contract with Wolves despite interest from several clubs in his services this month.
The Brazil international has notched ten goals and four assists across 20 appearances in all competitions this term.
His current deal only runs until June 2027 after his arrival at Molineux on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid in July 2023.
Football Insider revealed last week (3 January) that Arsenal are exploring a January move for Wolves star Cunha.
Cunha’s Wolves deal ‘not quite cut and dried’, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "The contract is not quite cut and dried, as I understand it.
"There are still some issues with the contract. His agent has come back to the table and said he wants to look at all the options before committing, which is a classic agent play.
"It was all supposed to be signed and done, but this last wrinkle has cropped up.
"I still expect it to get done, he's a vital part of the Wolves squad – they won't let it go.
"But the agent is taking the chance to have Wolves over a barrel and get as much for his client as possible.
"I do expect it to get done, but it's not quite there yet."
