Matheus Cunha reacts to what Wolves teammate did vs Southampton

03/15/2025 04:35 PM
Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha paid tribute to one teammate after a key moment in their vital Premier League win over Southampton.
Having delivered some impressive performances throughout the course of the campaign, Cunha has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal.
However, he has also produced some moments of madness that have threatened to prove more costly for his side.
Cunha was recently sent off as Wolves lost to Bournemouth in the FA Cup, which ensured he was suspended for his side’s trip to St Mary’s on Saturday (15 March).
Even so, the Brazilian was clearly watching on as his side picked up what could be a crucial result in their season.
Jorgen Strand Larsen hailed for two-goal heroics
Going into the game Wolves sat 17th in the Premier League table, six points clear of the relegation zone with ten games to go.
This clash with bottom side Southampton was therefore a big opportunity to pick up another vital three points as they look to avoid dropping back into the Championship.
They would eventually succeed with that despite being unable to call on Cunha, as two goals from Jorgen Strand Larsen secured a 2-1 win over the Saints.
Wolves last five games | Result |
Bournemouth (A) | Won 1-0 |
Fulham (H) | Lost 2-1 |
Bournemouth (A) | Drew 1-1 (lost 5-4 on penalties) |
Everton (H) | Drew 1-1 |
Southampton (A) | Won 2-1 |
While those goals may increase the pressure on Cunha to keep his place in the side when he returns from his ban, the Brazilian is still backing his teammate.
During that game, the suspended Wolves man shared the club’s post about Stand Larsen’s opener to his own Instagram story.
He underlined his backing for his teammate by tagging the Norwegian adding a series of loveheart emoji in the gold colour of the club.

Football Insider Verdict
In the wake of his sending off at Bournemouth ahead of such a crucial run of games, many had blasted Cunha for not thinking about his team in that moment of madness.
As a result it seems he is trying underline his support for Wolves as a team in spite of that with this public backing for Larsen.
Indeed, given Pereira’s side are now nine points clear of the bottom three with nine games to go, it does seem as though Cunha’s suspension has not proved too costly for his club.
Some have already suggested that Wolves are now safe from relegation from the Premier League, and they do have a big advantage with very few games left to be played.
Given it is also hard to see where the current bottom three are going to pick up any points from on current form, it does feel as though those at Molineux can start to relax over their situation.
