Matheus Cunha transfer: 'Wolves star will force move to Arsenal'
Wolves forward Matheus Cunha could "force" a move away from Molineux if Arsenal enter serious negotiations, according to Tim Sherwood.
The Brazilian striker has been linked with a move away, with Arsenal showing interest, while Nottingham Forest has also emerged as a contender in an ambitious pursuit.
Football Insider revealed that the Gunners are closely monitoring the forward, with earlier contract talks between Cunha and Wolves reportedly stalling – fuelling further speculation over a potential exit.
Sherwood discussed the ongoing saga on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday ahead of the clash between the two sides at Molineux and said (12:18): “He’s an exceptional player. I think he can play at the top end of the Premier League without doubt. He could play for any team in the world.
“He’s getting opportunities, his head has obviously been turned. He’s got a choice now really, it depends what his choices are.
“I’m not sure he’s leaving Wolves to go to Nottingham Forest, even though they’ve been brilliant this season, but if Arsenal are at the table I think he might try and force that move.”
Arsenal need a forward and Wolves' Matheus Cunha fits the bill
Football Insider Verdict
Cunha has been instrumental for Wolves this season, netting ten goals and providing four assists in just 21 league appearances, despite the team's ongoing struggles.
Losing the Brazilian forward this late in the transfer window could prove disastrous for Wolves as they battle relegation. The club must remain firm in their stance to keep him, given his importance to their survival hopes.
On the other hand, Arsenal are in desperate need of reinforcements in attack following injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Fans have expressed concerns that the return of Ethan Nwaneri to the squad might prevent the Gunners from making a serious push to sign a forward this window.
With Kai Havertz currently the only fit option as a striker, Arsenal's attacking depth looks worryingly thin.
Cunha is a versatile forward capable of playing both centrally and on the flanks, could be an ideal solution for Mikel Arteta.
However, Wolves are likely to demand a significant fee to even consider parting with their star forward, making any potential deal a costly affair for the Gunners.
The Brazilian failed to make an impact against Arteta’s side on 25 January as his team lost 1-0. Cunha played behind Jorgen Strand Larsen but he lost possession 15 times, managed only two successful dribbles [Sofascore] and missed a big chance in the second-half.
