Michael Owen explodes over 'pathetic' Jack Grealish incident at Aston Villa

Michael Owen has furiously criticised Aston Villa supporters for their reaction to former star Jack Grealish during the victory over Man City.
The Premier League champions suffered a ninth defeat in 12 games on Saturday (21 December) with a 2-1 loss at Villa Park.
Grealish played the full 90 minutes of that game, and was noticeably booed by sections of the home support throughout the course of the match.
The player himself responded by holding up three fingers at full-time to make a point about the number of Premier League titles he has won with Man City.
It also seems that did not sit right with Owen. Taking to social media, the former Liverpool and Man United striker published a lengthy rant taking aim at those who booed the England international.
The 45-year-old suggested that those who had done so were “nasty, jealous, spiteful, bitter people”.
He was also quick to note what the winger had done for his now former club, making over 200 appearances, helping them to re-establish themselves as a Premier League team in the process.
Owen also argued that through his move to Man City – which he says Grealish made to get the most out of his short career – the 29-year-old made Villa over £100million.
He then concluded by noting that as an Aston Villa fan himself, it will have been “heartbreaking” for Grealish to hear the “mindless and pathetic booing” from some of those supporters at Villa Park.
Jack Grealish had a tough afternoon for Man City at Aston Villa
This was not an afternoon that Grealish will want to remember for any reason when looking back on what happened.
From a footballing perspective this was another disappointing result and performance for him and his Man City teammates.
That has further set this up to be a miserable season for Pep Guardiola’s side with the defence of their Premier League title already seemingly hanging by a thread.
From a personal point of view, the boos Grealish heard from the Aston Villa fans will surely have hurt him too.
As a boyhood Aston Villa fan, the Man City man may well still consider himself to be one of their own at Villa Park, and so it will be difficult to take being shunned by those supporters here.
Considering what he gave for them on the pitch as well, he may feel as though he deserved more respect than he got this weekend.
