Arsenal fans were embarrassed on social media after Mikel Arteta claimed the Community Shields as trophies in his recent press conference.

The Gunners currently sit in third place after drawing with Everton on Saturday 14 December. They failed to capitalise again on league leaders Liverpool after their controversial draw to Fulham.

The Spanish coach faced criticism for his team's performance and substitutions. It seemed to shock pundits when he took off Martin Ødegaard and Declan Rice.

Supporter spirits are unusually low, and the situation worsened during Arteta’s press conference ahead of Crystal Palace.

He corrected a journalist who questioned how the club have only won one trophy during his tenure, the FA Cup in 2020.

The Spanish coach was quick to correct him and claimed the Charity Shield, which they won twice, and said, “Two Charity Shields? So, three trophies. We want more”.

Arsenal fans are growing impatient amidst trophy drought

The North London club have won just half of their games this season, which isn’t form likened to title winners.

Fans have shown their frustration before, with claims they won’t win the title under their manager.

Their attack has lacked a killer instinct, with Gabriel Jesus under scrutiny for just one goal scored this entire calendar year.

Raheem Sterling joined to strengthen the forward areas, but his time at the Emirates has been underwhelming and he has struggled to win fans over since his deadline-day signing.

But supporters are also concerned with the fact that it’s soon to be five years without a trophy for Arsenal, and these Community Shield comments have not helped the cause.

One fan said that it was “shameless” to consider it a trophy while another claimed “he’s losing his mind”. One though, believe that this is just part of his “sarcasm”.

In other news, Arsenal are linked to a Man United player, but another deal could halt the signing.
