Rangers being tipped for a shock offer to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has sparked a warning to emerge ahead of 49ers Enterprises’ expected Ibrox takeover.

Spearheaded by Leeds United‘s Paraag Marathe, alongside healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh, the 49ers’ attempted takeover has been greeted with a lot of positivity, especially ahead of the summer transfer window.

While star players such as Hamza Igamane and Nico Raskin have been linked with Rangers exits, there is a newfound hope that a new era can begin in Glasgow, meaning an entire squad shakeup rather soon.

That is not the only area of concern before the end of the season, however, with Barry Ferguson’s future as permanent Rangers manager uncertain, and now Arsenal’s manager has joined the conversation.

With supporters expecting the prospective new owners to splash the cash and bring massive names to the club this summer, journalist Hugh Keevins has warned about the dangers of fans getting too ahead of themselves.

Mikel Arteta wanted for Rangers manager job

Writing for the Daily Record (19 April), Hugh Keevins said: “I had one caller on the radio, prior to Rangers' visit to the Basque Country, who wanted the club's prospective owners from America to offer Mikel Arteta the manager's job.

“That Mikel Arteta. It's a peculiar notion that Arteta might be attracted to the notion of playing Falkirk in the Premiership next season. But this is the danger attached to 49ers Enterprises and their move on Rangers.”

Of course, there are links to Arteta at Ibrox, having played for the club between 2002 and 2004, but given his stature and accomplishments with a Premier League club, his name has come out of the blue.

Rangers supporters to remain logical ahead of exciting takeover

The Americans will certainly have some interesting decisions to make ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, once their takeover is complete, and the future manager will have to be one of them.

Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez are two names linked with Rangers, and so too are Russell Martin, Steven Gerrard and Derek McInnes, and it seems unfair to rule Ferguson out completely.

The former midfielder knows exactly what it means to play for the Light Blues, put on the jersey, and walk out in front of a rocking Ibrox crowd, which is what the club needs as it enters into a new era.

New owners, while supporters are excited for an influx of cash, could mean a lot of unpopular changes in terms of the squad and hierarchy, but many are prepared for what is to come.

Of course, some fans are getting a little too excited, jumping on the bandwagon of Arteta being under pressure at Arsenal in recent weeks, but they need to be far more realistic if they do not want to be disappointed.
