Millwall and Sunderland players were taken off the pitch after their match was suspended for 30 minutes due to multiple medical emergencies on Saturday.

The Championship clash was put on hold to deal with two seperate incidents in the crowd with both sets of players eventually returning to complete the game.

The incident occurred in the closing stages of the first half with one fan in the Dockers Stand at The Den seen being taken away on a stretcher.

Sunderland were 1-0 up when the match was halted thanks to a goal from Aaron Connolly but Millwall levelled it up after the restart as it finished 1-1.

‘The players have left the pitch following a medical emergency in the crowd,’ Millwall posted on X during the game.

”We send our best wishes to those receiving attention.’

Millwall’s medical staff were assisted by paramedics to help with the first medical emergency before it emerged a second fan needed assistance in a different part of the ground behind the dugout.

It was Millwall’s right-back Ryan Leonard who noticed the commotion in the crowd – as he collected the ball for a throw-in before gesturing for medical support.

The match eventually resumed, finishing well after the other 3pm Championship matches on Saturday.

Despite Sunderland’s failure to hang on for three points, after Millwall equalised in the 93rd minute, the Black Cats remain top of the league.

Sunderland are hoping to make a return to the Premier League this term under the management of Régis Le Bris.

They are next in action on Tuesday when they host West Brom at the Stadium of Light.

Millwall, meanwhile, face a trip down the south coast to take on Portsmouth on Wednesday.
