Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Liverpool will not match the £65million contract offered to Mohamed Salah by Al-Hilal.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the 67-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the 32-year-old’s final decision won’t be a “question of money”, but rather “what he wants to do on the pitch” in his twilight years.

It has been widely reported that Saudi giants Al-Hilal have offered Salah a lucrative £65million, two-year contract with the forward set to become a free agent at the end of this season.

Saudi sports chief Turki Alalshikh has fuelled the fire by posting a mocked-up image of the Egypt international wearing an Al-Hilal strip on his social media.

Salah has repeatedly told the media that an agreement over a new contract at Liverpool is not close, despite his stunning form for the Premier League leaders this term.

He has hit 22 goals and notched 17 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

Salah won’t make Liverpool exit decision for financial reasons, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast: "I don't think Liverpool will want to match the Saudi offer, given the age of Salah.

"Al-Hilal have come out of the pack, and it's huge numbers.

"It won't just be the football numbers, it's also the status he would have in Saudi.

"But I don't think this will be a question of money – because there's only one winner in that case.

"It's a question of what he wants to do on the pitch. Does he want to get more records at Liverpool? It'll come down to what he wants football-wise."
